To begin this project you need to do a little self-reflection. Much like Matisse, you are going to call up memories of events from your past that invoke colorful images. They can be memories of actual events (i.e. birthday parties) or perhaps memories of characters and places from books you've read.

Make a list of possible images you will use that is centered around the event or book you decide on. For example, a list describing images of a birthday party might include gifts, cake, party hats, ribbon, etc.
