Essay Quiz
This quiz will test your ability to describe,
analyze, interpret and judge a work of art. To begin, create a
new Microsoft Word and write out a heading that includes your
name, your class, and the date. After studying the painting shown
below, use the guidelines for description, analysis, interpretation,
and judgment to write your essay. When you are finished, print
out a copy and give it to your teacher.

Guidelines:
• Describe the elements and principles of
art that the artist used in the work of art. Use complete
and detailed sentences. (At least 5 sentences)
• Analyze the over all effect/mood created by use of the
elements and principles. (At least 5 sentences)
• Interpret what you think the meaning of the art is (What
do you think the artist is saying?) and why you think the artist
created the work. (At least 5 sentences)
• Judge whether you think the artist created a good work
of art. Back up your opinion with concrete examples and rationales.
