METROCARDS

Students are entitled to receive free school transportation either by bus or train when they live more than 1 ½ miles from school.  Students who live between ½ and 1 ½ miles may receive a half fare bus Metrocard.  We do not make the determination as to the distance; this determination is made by the Office of Pupil Transportation.  Students receive Metrocards only on the basis of distance; students do not receive passes on the basis of economic need.

If a Metrocard is lost or stolen, the student must report it immediately to the Transportation Coordinator located in the Attendance Office (Room 263).  The Transportation Coordinator will cancel the Metrocard.  There may be a wait of up to 20 school days for a replacement; therefore, it is important that when passes are distributed teachers emphasize to students that they must safeguard their Metrocards.  A number of students lose their Metrocards because they leave them with their books or clothes and then leave the classroom or cafeteria and find their Metrocards missing when they return.
