Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is hard to believe how quickly this year has passed and the year is coming to an end. To be a part of your child’s education was a wonderful experience. It was a year filled with pride and success.
Information letters were sent home with the children last week about the H1N1 virus. Please continue to take all precautions and keep your child home if they are ill. Remind them to wash their hands frequently and cover their mouth if they are coughing or sneezing. I appreciate all of your patience and understanding regarding the school closure. Everyone seems revived and healthy.
This year the students took the New York State ELA test and New York State Mathematics test. When the scores are released you will receive a print out of your child’s ELA and Math scores. You will be contacted if your child is in danger of being held over or if it is suggested that your child would benefit from the Summer Success Academy. Report cards are distributed on the last day of school. Please make sure all books, lunch accounts and library fines are returned by then. Also, if your child is mandated to attend the extended day program in September, a letter will be attached. The program will begin on the first day of school. June 26th will be a half day with an 11:20 am dismissal.
We encourage parents to oversee your child’s computer usage especially if your child has an account with Facebook and/or MySpace.com. Many children post inappropriate photos that can put them in a dangerous situation.
Even though the days are getting warmer and the close of the school year is less than a month away, we want to maintain academic rigor and encourage you to make sure your children are completing projects and homework to the best of their ability. School does not end until June 26th. We need your support to remind your children to maintain high quality work and continue good study habits. Also, the 37.5 minute extended day is a ninth period. Absence is recorded and monitored. Please encourage your child to attend if he/she is scheduled. We are working together to ensure success.
In preparation for the end of the school year, MyLunchMoney.com service will be disabled on June 12, 2009 at 4 pm. Please make sure your child has enough money in their snack account to last them through the last day of school. If you have a graduating senior or you are leaving the school district, please be sure to completely deplete the account funds before the end of the school year. For sixth and seventh grade students their pin number will remain the same for the next school year.
Please refer to the calendar on the back of this letter. The week of June 15th is Regents week for the grade 8 SP and Magnet students. The approved quarter days are the 17th, 19th and 22nd of June. Dismissal on a quarter day is at 9:45am. All Special Education students have a regular day of attendance. The half days and quarter days are listed on the back of this letter for your planning.
On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to congratulate the graduates and their families. I would also like to thank everyone for making 2008-2009 a very rewarding experience. I hope you have a safe, restful and enjoyable summer vacation. It is a pleasure working with you.
Respectfully,
Marie Nappi
Principal
