DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

   During the past seven years we have become very
proud of not only our academic studies but also our service to our community.  Besides the core curriculum our Law Studies program allows our students to perform mock trials and debates in either one of our two authentic courtrooms. Or to travel to Federal Court and perform Congressional debates and perform Supreme Court cases. We are fortunate to have a relationship with the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office as well as a practicing lawyer on staff. The students are taught the value of Law in their lives and respect for their rights as citizens.
    Our institute has the only Community Service program for junior high students in the New York City Board of Education. Our program has a two-fold purpose. First we want our students to appreciate the communities in which they live. Secondly, we want them to gain valuable work experience by using their talents. Three years ago we began our program with sixteen students leaving the building at 12:00 to go work at various sites. Last year we had 61 students participate in the program. We have students working as office assistants at:
                    * Senator Markowitz' office
                    * Assemblyman Brennan's office
                    * Councilman DiBienza's office
                    * Flatbush Development Corp.
                    * Ditmas' main office
                    * Ditmas' library
We have also had students work as tutors and teachers' aides at:

                    *PS 134
                    *PS 139
                    *PS 170
                    *PS 176
                    *PS 179
 If you have a desire to learn more about the legal system and your rights as citizens, you will find our Law Studies program exceptional. If you desire to put your talents where you can gain work experience then give Mr. Kevorkian a call at 718-941-5450.

Mr. Barry Kevorkian, Director
