Visual Art
The
students are exposed to various art genres, artists and media. This explora=
tion
and study increase inquiry skills, observational skills as well as
problem-solving and critical thinking skills, which are necessary to promote
learning and growth. In addition, we provide artist residencies to suppleme=
nt
the school curriculum as well as field trips to art museums to further enri=
ch
the students’ learning in the arts..

Grades
K-1: Exploration and Exposure
Students
explore and experience different media such as paint, basic collage, and si=
mple
3-d design. Some artist study.
Grade
2: Art through My Eyes
Studies
include observational drawings of their community, self-portraits, mosaic
design, printmaking, basic elements of art, i.e.,
line, shape, color theory…
Grade
3: Art Around the World
Focus
is placed on learning about other cultures such as Africa,
Grade
4: Possibilities
Studies
include advanced color theory, elements of art, and exposure to different
styles of art, such as post-impressionism, non-objective, realism, American
folk and Native American art.
Grade
5: Art in the Real World
Emphasis
is on elements and principles of art through the study of contemporary and
modern artists; observational drawings, and using art as a means of
communication.
