Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you back to the 2009-2010 school year.  I am looking forward to working with all of your children.

As the math cluster, I will be introducing key concepts of mathematics in the younger grades, and building upon these concepts in the upper grades.

Some of these concepts are, but not limited to, numeration and counting, reading and writing numbers, counting patterns, place value, whole numbers, fractions, decimals, problem solving skills, measurement of length, width, area, capacity, temperature and time, exploring data using tables and graphs, as well as other mathematic concepts.

I encourage all of you to take the opportunity at home to help your child apply math to everyday situations.  Some examples of this are asking your child what time it is on an analog clock, ask them to count coins or make change.  Have fun cooking with your child allowing them to measure ingredients for a recipe.

Please feel free to contact me at the school if you have any concerns about your child’s progress in math.  I will be more than willing to help in any way that I can.

                                                       Sincerely,

                                                       Mrs. K. Siroka
