MUSIC 101
The main goals of the Music Program are:
1. To provide the students of P.S. 101 with an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of musical activities.
2. To promote a positive attitude towards music,
3. To equip students with the concepts and skills necessary for the creation, performance, and appreciation of music.
The Early Childhood Program, (Kindergarden through Second grade), emphasizes singing, listening, and moving to music. Five content areas provide the framework for learning - rhythm, pitch, timbre, expressive qualities, and form.
The Third Grade will be learning the basic skills of musicianship through recorder instruction. The students will learn how to notate music, interpret dynamics, rhythm, form, and meter.
BAND 101!!! We are taking steps to breathe new life and energy into our music program by partnering with Third Street Music to bring full band lessons to our 4th graders. All fourth graders will learn instruments including saxophone, flute, alto sax, clarinet, trombone, drums and trumpet. Band lessons will take place twice a week with periodic performances throughout the year. This partnership also allows for free out-of-school music lessons for students involved.
The Chorus is a program that is open to students in Third, Fourth, and Fifth grades. Students learn the basic principles of voice development while singing for pure enjoyment.
