Gifted and Talented programs have long understood that students thrive in learning when they are working in the context of a subject they love. For example, if you love music, how great would it be to have your whole learning environment filtered through the subject of Music (in other words, Math, Science, Language Arts, etc. taught in the context of Music)? This is the basis for the School Enrichment Model.

At PS 101 we know our students are gifted and want to create a learning environment to suit all students of all levels. If we can teach them the various subjects through a means they truly enjoy, we will see students of all levels excel. Our SEM consists of approximately 10 different course offerings for students to choose from (ranging from photography and cooking, to magic and starting a business).

In September, students receive brochures describing the various courses being offered. Students selected four courses they are interested in, and in all cases were given one of their choices . We encouraged students to select a course that they would love to be involved in, not due to a friend or teacher, but for the sole purpose of learning something they enjoy.

Students work in a small group of approximately 10 students, and along with their guide, embark on a learning process which will be celebrated in a culminating assembly in early June
(5th grade parents will be invited to attend).

The past two year's enrichment programs were a huge success with students highlighting it as one of the best parts of their senior year!! Part of the coursework involves linking with a professional in the industry. in the past our Broadcasting group was on the CBS morning show, our cooking group worked witha professional chef, and more!

We are very happy that the students love enrichment and look forward to making this year better than ever!
