The Four Square Writing Program

My name Ms. Cigliano and I am the writing teacher. Writing is one of the most important and necessary skills a child can acquire. This year we have implemented a new writing program called The Four Square Writing Method to help better provide children with the skills they need to be successful writers. The Four Square Writing Method provides children with a systematic way to produce quality pieces of writing in essay format. The program is being used in grades 1-5 and writing tasks will become more complex at each grade level. Children will be composing pieces based on their own experiences along with the content they are learning in class. Through using the program, children will learn how to:

• Plan and outline
• Establish thesis statements
• Compose multiple paragraphs
• Create narratives and informational reports
• Paraphrase information
• Edit and revise pieces of writing
• Publish and share finished pieces of work
