Our primary mission is to educate, to motivate, and to nurture the children of the Bath Beach community.  We believe that this can be done successfully with the support of the parents, the dedication of the teachers, and the vision of the administration.   Our standards driven instruction and performance based asessment will ensure the success of our children in the twenty-first century.
 

These are the basic tenants of our mission:
 

• Each student will be assured success in at least one aspect of school life.
• Every adult in PS 163 will make himself/herself available to assist a child in any way, at any time.
• We believe that the children learn in a variety of ways and that they need to see the interconnectedness of the curriculum areas.
• We believe that a positive school atmosphere contiributes to and reinforces a high standard of learning.
• We believe that assessment of learning should be meaningful and presented positively to the children.
• We believe that all school policies and attitudes should encourage success in both academic and social areas

We are an America's Choice School 

Our school received an America's Choice grant for more than  $85,000, aimed at providing school reform.  The America's Choice school design is a comprehensive design for schools serving kindergarten through high school.  It was developed with one goal in mind: doing what ever it takes to make sure all but the most severely handicapped students reach an internationally benchmarked standard of achievement in English language arts, mathematics and science by the time they graduate.  Students enrolled in schools where America's School Design is embraced will be reading fluently if they follow the program set forward by America's choice.
    The America's Choice design is based on researched, proven approaches to prevention, early intervention and acceleration.  It is not based on remediation.  Students found to be falling behind are immediately given extra instruction, enabling them to catch up more quickly.  More is expected rather than less.
