The International Bilingual Prep is designed for those students who speak a native language other than English and are recent arrivials in our country. Our students come from Asia, Central and South America and the Caribbean Islands. In this transitional Bi-Lingual program the emphasis is on English Language acquisition. Each student will be scheduled to recieve daily 90 minute Literacy blocks. These will contain a blend of ESL and Reading & English Language Arts. The exact mix will be determined by each child's level of English achievement. In addition, Native Language Arts courses are included, so that the children can maintain and enhance their Native Culture while becoming fully prepared for the 21st Century in America. Ew offer Regents level courses in both Math and Science as well as a comprehensive academic program. Computer skills are taught in our Lab and integrated in our many Project Smart classrooms. We just completed the first year of our three years in the Title VII Grant. These funds allowed for extensive staff development in successful practices for language acquisition such as peer tutoring, cooperative learning, bookmaking, performing arts/theater arts skills and extended day enrichment.
