Architecture Club

Students are currently working with the architect in residence on a long time project to decorate every classroom doorway with a portal entrance. Here are some completed doorway portals.

Some Past Architecture Projects:

The 6th graders from the architecture club designed a new snack stand for P.S.110. The snack table has wheels for easy transportation. It will mainly be used for cake sales and flea market sales. There are compartments and shelves for storing money and different boxes for sale items. Some of the architects wanted the school's mascot, (an owl ) on the front of the table and on the towers. Advertisements should be placed on the tower and around the school. The table should be kept in the gym of P.S.110. Many of the architects wanted a top on the table. It will help keep the bright light out of it. Some also wanted curved sides so that little kids won't be able to sneak their hands in and steal something.

I've learned many things in architecture club. I've learned how to measure in scale and I've gotten better at drawing things in plan. I've also learned what an architect really does besides build, and I've learned new "architect" words and their meanings.

Architecture Club News

P.S.110 has a group of 5th graders who are learning how to be architects. They are being taught skills of architecture by Joanne Y. They have been working on their projects for a while and have set out some plans. Some kids are still deciding what they would like to do for this project.

The group of young architects voted on what project they wanted to do to improve the school. The majority of the 13 kids voted to improve the entrance of the school and the school officer's desk. We have been sketching out interesting ways to improve the desk.

Another plan that the architects were thinking of was a school map so visitors could find places they needed to go to easily. The book of maps would guide you to classes, the office, bathrooms, drinking fountains, the gym, the PTA room, custodian's office and staircases. They will try to make it as convenient as possible. The guide books would be located in the main office. This is P.S.110's Architecture Club News.
