Ms. Capic's Class: 6-319

6-319's research project focused on a comparison/contrast of life one hundred years ago versus life today. The class created a book with the help of Mr. Zilberzweig, a mural with Ms. Kufert's help, and a PowerPoint presentation with Mr. Baskin's aid, based on our research.

Ms. Salerno's Class: 6-317

Class 6-317 explored the connection between art and community by examining the graffiti and murals of the Lower East Side. Through neighborhood walks, photographs, websites, and reproductions, we analyzed and critiqued the neighborhood images we encounter everyday. The class decided to create their own mural, which included positive and peaceful images.

Mr. Kerne's Class: 6-318

The children wrote their own narratives, assumming the identities of actual past students of "the old" P.S. 20 who lived and grew up on the Lower East Side between 50 and 100 years ago. The project also includes dioramas of the Lower East Side from that time period and a computer generated oral account by the students about their lives in the L.E.S.

Ms. Martinez's Class: 6-312

Students were divided into groups and researched on the internet, library and classroom about the different types of mass transportation vehicles. Each vehicle was described in a summary as well as accompanied by drawings of each vehicle made by students. The vehicles began with the oldest form and ended with the most popularly used modes of transportation today. In addition, students researched the General Slocum disaster and made a replica of the General Slocum.

The class also created a QuickTime movie about Subways. Click here to view it.
