Ms. Ahmad's Class: K-130

Students listened to and read several books on the Lower East Side. Then took a walk in the neighborhood surrounding P.S. 20. As they walked they saw patterns, shapes, signs, representations of right and left, horizontal and vertical, big and small features which coexist in the community. After that they wrote about the people who work in the neighborhood. Then they made 3-D models of the neighborhood. Finally, they compared our city neighborhood to a country neighborhood.

Ms. Olivieri's Class: K-134

Students engaged in a variety of activities related to the trees on the playgrounds at P.S. 20. They counted, identified, measured, grouped, compared, contrasted, made bark rubbings, collected twigs, and performed dances comparing us to being roots and shoots in the living world.

Ms. Nieve's Class: K-128

...If You Lived 100 Years Ago on the Lower East Side was the theme for a unit of study by class K-128. Students studied how people dressed on different occasions and created puppets that reflected that time periods. They also read a Big Book that illustrated that era.

Ms. Lowenstein's Class: K-132

K-132 took pictures of the Hamilton Fish Library. They also took pictures of things that they saw on their walk. The librarian read the class a book called If the Dinosaurs Come Back. Then they drew pictures about the book, made their own Big Book, and added it to their classroom library.
