P.S. 20 Manhattan

Our School

P.S. 20M is large Pre-K – 6th grade multicultural inner city school located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Our school has received numerous awards and recognition for its successful approach to academic learning, including the prestigious Boyer Center Award for its outstanding arts in education program, one of only three schools in the United States to receive such an honor. It has also received the 2001 Effective Schools Award from the Council of Supervisors and Administrators and the 2002 President's "Coming Up Taller Award"

Harmony Picture Parents play an integral part in the instruction and operation of the school. Bilingual classes are offered for students and parents in Spanish, Chinese and Bengali. The school is a participant in the school-based management/shared decision-making initiative, a proponent of education reform.

P.S. 20M and the Henry Street Settlement annually host a Public School Teaching and Learning Expo each Spring. The curriculum and instruction exhibit displays the wide array of learning, talent and commitment by students, staff and parents. In addition, it mirrors the multicultural and interdisciplinary educational approach that makes the school succeed.

P.S. 20 has been the recipient of grants from the Center for Arts Education, The Empire State Partnership, The National Endowment of the Humanities, the U.S. Department of Education and the After School Corporation. Henry Street Settlement, a Lower East Side arts and social service agency has partnered closely with the school for nine years.
