Resource Room

Resource Room is a push-in/pullout program to assist children with academic delays. Parental consent is necessary. Resource Room children are seen 1 period a day. This is the least restrictive category of Special Education, designated to help children in their regular school environment.

Project Arts

All of our classes will be participating in a variety of special arts programs funded through Project ARTS, in Music and Theater. Depending on their grades, classes will be assigned to cycles with The 3rd Street Music School, Young Audiences, and the New Victory Theater. Unfortunately, Project ARTS funding has been reduced, so we participate in fewer music and arts programs during the school day this year than in the past.

Special Academic Programs

P.S. 63 is participating in the "American Gateways" Challenge Grant to integrate technology into every aspect of the curriculum.

Computers

Our State-of-the-Art computer lab provides children and staff with an opportunity to learn to use technology as a tool for learning. In addition, all classes have a computer station with a printer and CD-ROM. All classrooms have Internet access through a T1 line. Teachers are being trained in how to integrate technology into all areas of the curriculum.

Library

Our refurbished P.S. 63 Library is currently being renovated thanks to a Carnegie Grant. The Grant will allow us to add a brand new collection of high interest fiction and nonfiction books for all grade levels to our current collection. In October of 1999 the family of Charlotte Droll Friedman donated money to support the literacy program and library at P.S. 63.

Children will be visiting the Library on a regular basis to borrow books once the library is reopened.

Extended Day Programs

In collaboration with University Settlement and T.A.S.C., this year, P.S. 63 offers a variety of Extended Day programs which provide academic, recreational, and enrichment activities for all students in grades K to 6. Programs run Monday through Friday, 3 to 6 pm. There will be no programs on school holidays or half days.
