To take a child out during school hours, the parent/guardian must send a note of intention to the teacher.
The parent/guardian must appear in person in the office, wait for the child to be called down, and sign the child out for early dismissal.
Please try to schedule medical and dental appointments after school. If this isn't possible, please try to schedule them early or late in the school day and have your child attend at least part of the day.
Lateness
All latenesses will be marked on report cards and in the ATS computer.
Medical & Dental Forms
All forms requiring checkups are distributed as required by the Board of Education. Forms should be completed by your doctor and returned promptly.
If a child develops a communicable disease, such as Chicken Pox, the parent should notify the school office immediately. Any special medical problem should be brought to the attention of the school nurse. If a student needs to take medication during the school day, parents should contact Ms. Mujica in Room 411A for the 504 Authorization forms. The school nurse will then be able to administer the medications.
School Uniforms
After consultation with parent and staff in the Spring of 1999, we decided to comply with the new Chancellor's Regulations regarding school uniforms. Our uniform consists of dark blue bottoms (pants or skirts) and white tops (shirts, blouses, tee-shirts, turtle neck sweaters). Our goal was to allow families to comply with the requirement at a minimum additional cost. Nevertheless, parents who wish an exemption to the regulation must fill out and sign an exemption form in the Main Office.
Report Cards & Promotional Policy
Report Cards are issued to all students in grades K to 6, four times a year: November, January, March and the last day of school in June. Whenever the possibility exists that promotion is in doubt, the parent will be notified with the second report card in January. This allows us time to develop ways to assist the child before the Spring tests. Students who do not meet the Chancellor's Promotional Standards will be retained in grade.
Conferences
Conferences between parents and teachers are held twice a year, in the Fall and in the Spring. An afternoon and evening are set aside for these parent-teacher conferences on all grade levels. Notices are distributed well in advance of conference dates. Children's work folders will be available for review at that time. Parents may request additional conferences at any time by making an appointment with the teacher.
Class Trips
All class trips are arranged by the teacher. Information is sent home in advance, advising parents of the means of transportation, destination, and costs, if any. It is necessary for parents to sign a permission slip before a child may participate in the class trip. Students who do not have written permission from their parent will not be able to leave the building. Parents are encouraged to accompany classes on trips. We must have at least one adult for every fifteen children on a trip.
Lost & Found
There is a lost and Found container by the 3rd Street entrance for jackets, book bags, etc. Items of greater value, such as glasses, wallets, jewelry, etc., should be returned to the Main Office. The Lost and Found bin will be cleaned out periodically, so act promptly if your child loses something.
Bulletin Boards
A Parent Association bulletin board is located near staircase 2 in the Main Lobby. It is used to post Parent Association notices, as well as general information about educational, cultural and recreational activities in the area.
Money
All money coming to school (trips, book orders, etc.) should be placed in a sealed envelope with the child's name and class written on it.
