  • 79M and 752Q participate in “LEAP” Student Public Art Program and Exhibition This program empowers young people to have a voice in their communities through the creation and exhibition of public art. A teaching artist worked with middle school students from 10 schools throughout New York City to create large-scale art pieces using a school lunchroom table as a canvas. These will be installed in local community parks for two months this summer. As part of the process, students had the opportunity to meet with distinguished guest artists such as Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Tom Otterness, Audrey Flack and James de la Vega. They explored community social issues and studied the history and practice of public art. The works will be displayed at a kick-off event at Bryant Park on Thursday, May 29th. Each school will also participate in an opening event at a local community park. 79M/Dr. Horan School Opening Event on Friday, June 6th, at Marcus Garvey Park 752Q/Queens School for Career Development Opening Event on Wednesday, June 11th at Marconi Park.
