Assistive Technology services consist
of any service -- including an assistive technology evaluation
-- that directly helps a student with a disability
select, acquire or use an assistive technology
device, including
- evaluating
the needs of a student with a disability, including
a functional evaluation of the child in the child's
customary environment;
- purchasing,
leasing, or otherwise providing for the acquisition
of assistive technology devices by a child with
a disability;
- selecting,
designing, fitting, customizing, adapting, applying,
maintaining, repairing, or replacing assistive technology
devices;
- coordinating
and using other therapies, interventions, or services
with assistive technology devices, such as those
associated with existing education and rehabilitation
plans and programs;
- training
or technical assistance on assistive technology
devices for a student with a disability (and,
if appropriate, that
student's family);
- training
or technical assistance for professionals (including
individuals providing education or rehabilitation
services), employers, and/or other individuals
who provide services to, employ, or are otherwise
substantially involved in the major life functions
of a student;
- audiological
services to provide management and maintenance
of auditory equipment and personal hearing aids;
- vision services to provide management and maintentance
of access software and hardware (such as screen
readers, magnifiers, and note-takers).
