American Ballet Theatre

The American Ballet Theater's, 'Make a Ballet' in partnership with Harlem's Frederick Douglass Academy offers the school's students the opportunity to create a ballet from begining to end - conceiving, producing, designing, marketing, choreographing, and performing the work under the tutelage of ABT staff and FDA faculty.

The 1998-99 school year culminated with a performance of the student's original work, Takin' It Back, at FDA on May 14, 1999. The students also performed Takin' It Back as part of the Young People's Ballet Workshop at the Metropolitan Opera House on May 24, 1999.

On October 23, 1999 FDA received the Governor's Arts Award for the ABT/FDA Make a Ballet Program.
