FDA in Mexico -2008

Travel in Mexico is a fascinating encounter with a unique story of past Mesoamerican civilizations and the modern country that it has produced. From the awesome ancient cities to the gorgeous colonial palaces, through the world class museums and the deep-rooted traditions and beliefs of the Mexicans, both the mixed -ancestry mestizos and the millions of indigenous people who are direct decendants of the ancient civiliaztions, -Mexico's ever- present past will never fail to enrich FDA's journeys.

FDA visits the monument in honor of Mexico's first indigenous leader, Benito Juarez, father of the nation.
This monument sits as a gateway entrance into the beautiful Alameda Park, adjacent to the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

The FDA Lions encounter Los leones del Parque La Alameda.

Mexico is colored with dozens of lively and vibrant plazas and this beautiful one helped refresh the FDA travelers on their journey.

A shady rest point at the base of the spectacular pyramid of the Moon, is situated in Teotihuacan in the desert areas of the northern outskirts of Mexico City.
Found here are the largest pyramids in the Americas, the pyramid of the Moon and the pyramid of the Sun.
At one time this pyramid city was inhabited by over a quarter million people. The ruins stand as a reminder of its not forgotten past.

FDA visits Mexico

In order to help our students increase their understanding of the Spanish language and culture the students of The Frederick Douglass Academy are encouraged to travel to places where spanish is spoken.  We were fortunate to visit Mexico City and the surrounding communities. At the pyramids we learned of the great civilization that built these wonderful structures.
