Rainforest Caribbean

In the summer of 1995, two students from FDA were selected to participate in Interlocken's Rainforest Caribbean. These students, along with twelve others from high schools all over the U. S., had an opportunity to explore this exotic country through countless challenging hikes and interacting with Dominicans. They had first hand experience learning about a diverse Caribbean culture through its music, food, politics and social issues. For about a week of the trip students sailed to different islands. On the tiny Windward island of Bequia, each student was hosted by a Bequia student and his/her family for 6 days where they learned a great deal and forged lasting friendships.

The highlights of Interlocken's Rainforest Caribbean are:

  • Explore the rainforested island of Dominica
  • Hike up to Boiling Lake Volcano
  • Snorkel coral reefs near undersea hot springs
  • Live with families in a tiny fishing village
  • Sail to the French West Indies
