OVERVIEW: As English teachers, one of our primary goals is to help students become confident, independent readers who find reading a natural way of discovering and incorporating information and experience into their lives. We encourage our students to read widely and deeply, and to read increasingly complex texts that they might not pick up on their own. Additionally, students will be given the opportunity to explore free writing, quick writing, and power writing. They will use their sourcebooks to allow smaller pieces of writing to emerge into larger essays. The sourcebooks allow students to see the progression of their written work as it moves through various stages of the writing process. Ultimately, students will become authors in their own right as they take pride in presenting and publishing their works in what will be known as "the author's chair" as well as other forums.
