REGENTS & HONORS CLASSES » Earth Science This course provides students with an understanding of the world around them and the components which make work the way it does. The course ends with a Regents. » Biology For students interested in any medical or science field, biology provides an excellent introduction for the future. Course ends with a Regents. » Chemistry This course provides the basics of chemistry. The course ends in a regents examination in June. It is especially important for students who are planning a career in Science, Computer Technology, Mathematics or Engineering. You must have passed Sequential Math 1 or the first 2 terms of Math A. It is a required course for students in the Math/Science program. » Physics This course provides the basics of physics. Find out how light, electronics, machines work and engineers can calculate the way things work. This course ends in a regents' examination in June. it is especially important for students who are planning a career in Science, Computer Technology, Mathematics or Engineering. You must have passed Sequential II or Math Math A to be in this class. It is a required course for students in the Math/Science program. » Science Research If you are interested in creating experiments, building models, entering competitions and winning scholarships, this class is for you! You must have passed at least one of your science classes with a grade of 75 or above and are willing to do independent research. You get to work with college professors on their favorite projects and take trips to special places. Students who have taken this course in the past have earned Westinghouse Scholarships and other awards. NON-REGENTS CLASS » Chemistry in the community Things we rely on everybody are made from chemicals. Why do foods taste so good? Why do medicines make us feel better? How can cosmetics find that perfect shade? This course will help you find those answers! » Conceptual Physics Physics doesn't have to be all numbers. You use physics every time you go on a roller coaster, turn on your TV or play soccer. This course looks at everyday uses of physics and how they affect your life. » Ecosystems Who lives on this planet? How do we relate to each other? This is a course in the ecology of the earth and why all living things are important to all other living things. There may be at least one field trip. » Environmental Science We all live on this planet but not everyone takes care of it. In this course you will find out how humans are affecting our land, water and air and what we can do about it. There may be at least one field trip. » Forensics 1 & 2 Welcome to the world of crime detection. Find out how scientist use biology and chemistry to turn evidence into fact. This course requires an understanding of chemistry. » Geohazards Earthquakes don't kill people, buildings do. But so do from hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanoes, floods, landslides and meteors. This course looks at these natural phenomena and how they may affect your life. » Marine Biology 78% of the world is covered by water and in that water lives fish, mollusks, birds, sea mammals and lots of plants. Explore this undersea world as a biologist sees it. There may be at least one field trip. » Oceanography Ever gone to the beach and just stared at the waves? Where did they come from? How much salt is in the sea? How do sailors find their way at night? This course will attempt to answer these questions and more. There may be at least one field trip. »Scientific Investigations Need help with basic concepts in science such as magnets, simple chemistry and using machines? This course helps you to discover these scientific principles on your own. » Zoology Do you talk to the animals? Does the Bronx Zoo really excite you? Do you have an exotic pet? Then this course may be for you. It will examine the place that animals have in our world from microscopic organisms to the whale and the dinosaur. There may be at least one field trip. |
