Your school library has subscriptions to several research databases that are accessed through the Internet. These electronic collections, some with graphics, reprint the full-text of millions of articles from magazines, newspapers and journals. Some of these databases also include the full-text of important reference books plus collections of maps. You can search for articles for research projects, homework assignments or subjects that personally interest you. Please ask a librarian for the Web site addresses, log-in codes and passwords. Some of the databases offer you the options of immediately printing out your articles, downloading or e-mailing the text to another computer.
EBSCO MasterFILE Select
This resource provides the full-text for nearly 800 periodicals going as far back as 1984. MasterFILE Select also includes the full-text of several reference books and an image collection of photos, maps and flags. EBSCO ANIMALS is an encyclopedia that provides in-depth information about many familiar animals. EBSCO TOPICsearch is a current events database that leads to articles about recent social, scientific, political and economic issues. EBSCO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COLLECTION contains over 500 education journals full-text. This is a useful resource for teachers doing research for graduate education courses.
INFOTRAC: STUDENT EDITION
Designed especially for students, INFOTRAC offers the full- text of articles from 300 magazines and newspapers, 300 full-color maps, the full-text of 27 reference books including an atlas, almanac and dictionary and 500 historical images.
PROQUEST DIRECT
An online resource of articles from 646 periodicals. The New York Times from 1999 to the present is available full-text at this site. The recent papers are not digitally reproduced exactly as they appear in the daily newspapers; there are also no graphics.
PROQUEST HISTORICAL PAPERS: THE NEW YORK TIMES
The entire backfile of The New York Times from 1851 through 1998, every page of every issue, has been reproduced exactly as they appear in the paper, including political cartoons, charts, graphs and advertisements. PROQUEST PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION COLLECTION offers the full-text of articles from 350 education journals covering every area of education.
