LIBRARY PROCEDURES AND POLICIES
To make the library a pleasant place to visit, the following policies and procedures should be recognized and followed.

HOURS:
The library is open daily during regular school hours and welcomes visits for library use by the entire school community. The library is open all day: periods 1-10. Lunch Periods: Students can report directly to the library and show a program card and I.D. to the librarian upon entering. Students going to the cafeteria first must get a pass from a cafeteria aide and then go directly to the library.

BORROWING PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS: The student's program card serves as their library card and is required to checkout materials. Students may borrow a maximum of 3 books. Books can be renewed if they have not been requested by other library patrons. Magazines do not circulate. Exception: IF an article in a research periodical is longer than 5 pages, the magazine can be checked out for 3 days. Video cassettes can be borrowed by students if they receive permission from a subject class teacher. College videos can be borrowed at any time. Computer printouts should be limited to a reasonable number. Printouts are allowed only to complete classroom assignments. Students should try not to waste paper.

LIBRARY ETIQUETTE:
» Students are expected to behave in an appropriate manner in all libraries.
» Students are expected to respect the rights of other library patrons by utilizing library resources quietly.
» Students must not bring food or beverages into the library.
» Students may not use electronic devices such as cell phones and CD players in the library.
» Students are responsible for treating all materials with care, including computers and other electronic equipment.
» Students must display a program card upon entering the library.
» Students must wait for the change of periods before exiting the library.
» Students cannot play games on/off computers.
» Students are forbidden from using proxies to view blocked sites.


TEACHERS: Teachers and other staff members may borrow materials for a reasonable period of time.

CLASS VISITS: Teachers are encouraged to bring their classes to the library for book talks, book selection, orientation for new students, independent research or research skills lessons and Internet instruction. Library skills lessons must be integrated with classroom assignments. Teachers are expected to make appointments to bring their classes to the library several days in advance of the visit. Teachers are expected to discuss the purpose of the visit with the librarian and provide any pertinent materials or assignment sheets given to the students. The teacher actively assists the librarian and supervises their students during the library visit.
