Who was HORACE MANN?

What an honor to have our school named after Horace Mann!

Horace Mann was a Massachusetts lawyer and legislature. He became the secretary of the nation's first board of education in 1837.

In this position, Mann worked very hard to establish public schools to provide a common education to all citizens.

He argued that this was essential to democracy.

Horace Mann is known as "The Father of Public Education."
