PROJECT ARTS

Miss Eierman has been the Project Arts Co-Teacher here at P.S. 90 for the last two years. The program concentrates on the integration of Visual Arts with all curriculum areas, with a strong focus on Social Studies and Literacy themes. All grades participate in this program, as it is scheduled in 12 week cycles.

Some of the upper grade themes that have been studied include: Ancient Egypt, The Aztec Empire, and Traditional African Masks, and an Author Study of Steven Swinburne.

Some of the lower grade themes that have been studied include: Animal Habitats, Flowers, Puppets, and an Author Study of Eric Carle.

A class studying Traditional African Masks created rubbings of original masks that the students created after learning about masks and looking at pictures and examples of actual masks.

A third grade class was beginning to create paper mache birds. This was part of a study of Steven Swinburne and his literature. Many projects have begun in anticipation of Steven Swinburne's visit to P.S. 90!
