As part of a shared literacy experience, Ms. DeCristino's 5th grade class and Mrs. Virgona's Kindergarten class teamed up for "Kindergarten Buddies".

Each 5th grade student was given a kindergarten student to "buddy-up" with. Once a week the classes meet during our literacy period to share readings, responses to literature, and songs. Two of our most recent projects are an original story and illustrated book and a Mother's Day art project and poem. The illustrated book was accomplished by allowing the buddies to create a round robin story and then illustrations that matched the story. Fifth graders assisted kindergartners with creating a sentence that fit into our shared story. Buddies then retold their portion of the story in sequence and shared their art work.
