Wherever you go in P.S. 90

you are bound to find Verdi hanging around!

Ms. Onolfi's fifth graders created math problems after reading Verdi.

Here are a few samples. Can you solve them?

At noon Verdi was 3 inches

away from the tree.

Every hour Verdi moved 10 inches.

How many inches was Verdi away from the tree at 6:00 pm?

Ms. Martini's first graders wrote Verdi haiku poems after listening to the story.

Fourth graders in Ms. Haft's and Ms. Scalza's fourth grade Vista class had some personal thoughts about the messages they learned from Verdi.

In class my teacher read the story Verdi to us. When Verdi was yellow he played and played. At this time in his life he was young. When he got older he turned green. He realized that as he got older, even though he changed, he was still the same person that he was when he was younger in many ways. I don't think that I am the same now as I was when I was younger. Maybe I will change my mind when I get to be a little older.

I really enjoyed reading the story Verdi and looking at the pictures with my classmates. I learned from Verdi that even when you are older you can still do things like you did when you were young. I still do things that I did when I was younger, like playing with my friends and my Gameboy. I was reminded that it is not nice to make fun of people, ever. Sometimes I make fun of people when they make fun of me and my brother. I try to remember that it is not nice to do, so I apologize for making fun of someone when I remember. Verdi helps me to remember that. It was very nice for the "Greens" to help Verdi at the end of the story. I would recommend that other children read this book, too.

I read the story Verdi in school. I found it very interesting that snakes can change colors! I learned many things when we talked about the story in class. I learned from Verdi to have good feelings about yourself and others. Everyone goes through changes that can be very different from each other. When you get older you can still have fun. I think that I will still be able to have fun when I get older.

I listened to the story Verdi and we talked about it in class. I learned many things. I learned that even if you change you can still do some of the same things you did before. I also learned that even if you are mature you can still play your favorite games. I learned that everyone is different and that everyone changes in life.
