"Earth Science"
It's about time science became fun! Earth
science is a subject
that we all see and experience on a daily basis. From looking at the night to
understanding the nightly weather report, we attempt to make sense of how the
earth works in terms of the processes and impact it has on our lives. Earth
science attempts to describe our physical world and beyond.
In the fall the classes explored cool subjects like the solar system, meteorology and climate. We began the semester by examining where we are in the universe and how the earth's movements effect our lives. After understanding where we are, we looked at what is happening on our planet in terms of meteorology. At the end of this unit, the weather person finally made sense when they say a low-pressure system is advancing from the West.
In the second semester, the class started by looking to the past. The first
topic was Earth's history. We answered such questions such as how old is the
earth and how has it changed over the last 4.6 billion years. From there, we
looked at rocks and minerals. We looked at the different types of rocks and
explored the different types of formation. From there, the class moved to
Surface Processes and Landscapes. Finally, we scratched beneath the surface and
looked at the Earth's Crust.
My class enjoyed their time. Most of all, my students continue to ask themselves questions and are always be motivated to learn more. We are all students of life and as individuals education does not stop when you graduate high school.
Always remember, "Big processes are made of many small ones."
