The purpose of the leadership program is to reduce youth violence and bias related incidents in our schools through education and community service.  Our students are provided with intensive training in violence prevention and prejudice reduction.  Subsequently, these students will perform community service as peer educators for other students and parents.

The leadership programs goals are:

  • To develop self-respect and self esteem in young people

  • To develop respect for diversity in schools

  • To develop non violent conflict resolution skills for diffusing disputes

  • To communicate to parents that values taught at home have long lasting affects on their children

  • To provide young people with the opportunity to perform service in their communities

This year long course engages students in the questions of what is leadership and who is a leader?  Self concept & affirmation helps students to identify positive attributes in themselves and their classmates.  Working in cooperative groups, students will learn the principles of group dynamics.  Imagination is encouraged by incorporating exercises of visualization to create conflict resolution monologues.  The violence prevention segment works with student interaction and participation build on the idea and definition of conflict.  By the end of the course students will be able to answer these questions themselves by employing leadership skills in various situations, as well as being able to identify examples and qualities of leadership in their homes, communities and abroad.
