Midwood has become the technological model forour district,
borough, and city. Our teachers use Presentation computers with Internet
connectiona in all classrooms.
In addition, we have minilabs and full labs available. First source
database questioning
is used Social Science classes and the
city-wide Model Congress meets at Midwood because of our Internet
access in every classroom. Many other schools have used our infrastructure and
labs as a model for their own technology programs. We serveas a consultant
to many public and private schools through New York University and CUNY projects.
Midwood was chosen to be the pilot model for Brooklyn College’s TIIAP
grant sponsored by the US Department of Commerce.
We have used technology to develop programs
to help students with special needs, special interests, and special skills
by implementing distant learning and interdisciplinary courses. Seniors
can study at Brooklyn College without charge and receive full college or high
school credit. Students in our research programs can work with
professional researchers from Brooklyn College, SUNY Health Science Center, Rockefeller
University, Maimonides Hospital, Long Island University, Polytech University,
Cornell Medical Center, New York University Hospital, NYC Public HealthDepartment
and Long Island College Hospital. These collaborationshave produced
more Intel Science Search semi-finalists than any other high
school in the nation.
