Medical Issues
Medical Issues includes a wide range of topics including genetic engineering, abortion,
reproductive technologies, euthenasia, fetal tissue and organ transplants, human experimentation
and disease risks, particularly AIDS.
It introduces students to these everyday problems, gives them some of the techniques they need
for analysis of ethical dilemmas, aids them in developing skills to critically think for
themselves, and allows them to make decisions (judgements) about moral problems based
upon examination, analysis, research, and empirical evidence.
Medical Issues is mainly a discussion class. Strategies include:
- daily updates
- critical analysis and oral presentation of current controversial biomedical articles
- case discussions in the round
- oral and written debates
