TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM

THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES OFF-SITE WORK EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.

This work experience program is available to selected students who meet the academic requirements and successfully interview for the positions available.  This experience helps develop job skills and positive work attitudes.   Students who participate make great strides in their self-confidence and self-knowledge.  A stipend is provided for their hours of participation.  Supervision is maintained by the Office of Placement and Referral for Clients with Special Needs.

The students are placed in training positions in both the private and public sectors of business throughout the boroughs.   The site employer will provide the student with a training experience appropriate for his/her needs, interests, abilities, and career goals.  The employer will make evaluation reports to be made available to the Transition Coordinator.  Training supervisor and Transition Coordinator maintain contact regarding the progress of the participant.

Students who successfully complete this program have gained a valuable reference for future employment.
