Differentiating Instruction with Technology
Everyone learns differently, have different interests, and work at their own pace. Technology is an essential tool in making differentiating instruction happen. Teachers at P.S.101 incorporate technology in their daily lessons to reach out to their students by using variety of  devices. Having technology in a school answer many problems. Virtual tours of museums and  famous landmarks around the world are often visited. Streamed videos are used to implement lessons, computers are used for research and to create projects, and the students even Skype (video conferencing) with people from other states and countries to further their knowledge.

Cluster teachers this year are also joining forces to integrate technology into science, music and art in our ICT classes.

Apple iTouch
At the end of last year, our ELL students were able to obtain knowledge using Apple iTouches. They had the experience to utilize the device to help them improve in listening, speaking, reading and writing. This was a success and we will continue to explore for different ways in helping our students achieve.

21st Century Classrooms (1:1 laptop model)
As a result of the overwhelming success and innovation achieved by our three initial model classrooms, all 3rd - 5th grade classrooms are now 21st Century Classrooms where every student has their own laptop. Laptops will be used as an instructional tool to foster student learning, enhance projects, increase communication, and ensure our students are prepared to understand how to use technology to benefit their education and their lives.

Smart Technology
SmartBoard–Imagine having an entire piece of the classroom chalkboard become a computer screen that responds to touch. SmartBoards turn the chalk board into an interactive instructional tool for teachers. All classrooms, Grades K - 5 have SmartBoard technology permanently installed in their classrooms for everyday use.
Senteo Response Systems (Handheld wireless remote that provides instant  response)- Motivates students and keeps them engaged by giving them an instant feedback. In addition, it provide teachers with a graph of where each student stands. Teachers can address their students weaknesses immediately.
SmartTables- (Currently in lower grades) These tables are interactive, motivating, and educational. Teachers create lessons that reinforces what students have learned and continue to build on their knowledge. These tables are suitable for every student in the classroom.

Computers in the classroom/ Laptop Carts -All classrooms have at least two computers for students to use as part of their education. Additioanlly, mobile laptop carts are available for K-2 teachers to use with their class. During their scheduled time, teachers may use laptops as part of their instruction. During these periods, every child works with their own laptop. Combined with wireless internet capabilities and various educational programs, teachers integrate computer use into their daily instruction.

Enhanced Communication
As a result of parent request, we have sought out new methods of communication. We use an automated phone system (School Messenger) with voice, email and text messaging capabilities to ensure that parents receive notifications in their preferred method. Additionally, translation is available in select languages for all three methods of communication. Futthermore, you can download all Parent Letters from our Parent Blog by clicking here.
