MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!

Nominate yourself to serve on Region 7’s Community Education Council or Citywide Education Councils for Special Education or High Schools.  The current CEC term will end 6/30/05. Nine parents in Region 7 will be elected by PTA officers in the region to serve a two-year term beginning 7/1/05.  Please consider this important opportunity to help shape every child’s education in our district.  More information on applying and council member duties can be found on the orange brochure sent home earlier this week, by calling the Councils Hotline (800) 799-3388, visiting: www.nycenet.edu/councils or calling the Parent Coordinator. Thanks and Good Luck!

Please remember to bring ID with you and sign in at the security desk. Students cannot be removed from class during the day – but can return with parents from 3-6 if you would like to visit the Science Fair exhibits together or take photos.

Volunteer of the Month

Our February volunteer of the month is Jackie Testagrossa.  Jackie has been a PTA Member and school volunteer since her son, Paul, began Kindergarten in 1990.  This year her daughter, Catherine, will graduate 5th Grade and I don’t know what we will do without her!  Jackie is possibly the easiest person to work with – she has great ideas, works hard and makes it all seem effortless.  She gives her time, support and positive approach to almost every PTA project and has encouraged many other parents to become involved.  When asked for help, 99.9% of the time her answer is “not a problem.”   This year, Jackie has joined the School Leadership Team and her PTA work includes chairing the International Celebration (Tea) for the second year and Teacher’s Request for Resources Committee. She is always an integral part of the Nominating Committee and Staff Appreciation Luncheon, has been a Learning Leader and even lends a hand with vision screening and selling snacks for the G.O. during Friday lunch.  Jackie is an inspiration and a great asset to PS 102.  When you see this wonderful parent volunteer -  please take a moment to say “Thank You”!

Tsunami Relief

We have all been moved by the devastation caused in South Asia by the 12/26th Tsunami.  PS 102 Staff Members collected over $900 for the DOE/American Red Cross Relief Fund and the PTA approved a donation of $1500 for this purpose.  The HeartShare After School Program is collecting refundable plastic bottles and cans in the lobby through 2/9/05 also toward this effort.

THANKS…

…To all the PS 102 Students who worked so hard on their Science Projects – and the 4th graders and their teachers who have worked hard preparing for the ELA test.

…To over 300 students, families and staff members who came out to the Skating Party and to the PTA for cookies and hot chocolate. (and to whomever granted us a clear warm night in a week full of rain) Again, PS 102 was complimented by Wollman Rink staff who called us a “terrific group” and welcomed us back any time.

…To Jackie Testagrossa, the PTA, Mrs. Pellegrino and all the parents who attended the International Celebration on January 27th … and the Entertainment!  Each and every one of our dancers and musicians were the stars of this wonderful celebration of our many cultures.

A belated thanks to:

…Ms. Cross and Mr. Stern for arranging for Santa and the Elves to participate in December gym classes…and to the 4th and 5th grade student Santas:

Joey Aziz, Sheila Chavez, Nicole Gaffney Constantine Goudelias, Kevin Kelley, Joseph Loonam, Cindy Pallilero, Afrim Perazic, Joseph Woods & Denys Zagvoiskyj
