This month I would like to recognize a pair of volunteers – Margie Yee-Santa Ana and Bruni McCauley – two close friends who recently returned to Bay Ridge and share interests in Tae-Kwon-Do, working with children and helping adults and children who are learning the English language.  Margie contacted me last spring – explaining that she was moving back to Bay Ridge, her daughter would attend 5th grade, and she would like to volunteer at the school.  After arriving at PS 102 to register Carolyn, she also asked if her friend, Bruni McCauley, could volunteer even though she had no children in the school. Of course! Margie and Bruni both completed Learning Leaders training and were assigned to work with 5th grade ESL students, work they have done faithfully since October.  Margie and Bruni are willing to try everything – and have been enthusiastic volunteers at Sports Nights (bringing their husbands along) and attending and  translating at adult ESL classes and parent workshops. If you are lucky to know these two warm, wonderful parent volunteers – please take a moment to say Thank You!

It’s hard to believe the school year is almost over. Before we get caught up in closing out the year – with graduation, awards ceremonies and field days – take some time to have a family meeting and plan for a summer full of rest and relaxation – but also of learning opportunities, exploring new places and activities and preparing for the next grade.   I hope you will  share your summer plans, sports program and summer camp contacts and favorite places and activities with me so I can share these ideas with all the parents of PS 102.
