INTERNET:  a huge collection of computers all around the world

 

WWW: only part of the Internet, a collection of websites and pages of information

 

What can you do on the Internet?

Research, e-mail, chat, play games, shop, listen to music, watch videos, blog, tweet

 

S.M.A.R.T:  word to remember ways to keep safe while surfing the Internet

 

WEB BROWSER:  software used to look at web pages 

                                  i.e.   I-Explorer,  Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome

 

URL:  Uniform Resource Locator, the global address of documents and other resources on the WWW

 

 

WEB BROWSER TOOLBAR:  picture buttons used as shortcuts to help navigate websites and

                                               perform tasks.

                     i.e.    BACK…..HOME……REFRESH…..SEARCH……PRINT…..FAVORITES

 

FAVORITES:   bookmarks for web-addresses to sites used most often

 

 

SEARCH ENGINE:  special websites that allow the user to search for information  

                                   i.e.   Google, Ask, Kids Click, CBBC Find, Dogpile, Bing

 

SEARCH HELPERS:  speech marks, + sign, - sign

 

HYPERLINKS:  words, buttons, or pictures which link webpages together.  Clicking on a       .

                         hyperlink will take the user to another webpage

 

IMAGE MAP:  a group of pictures used as hyperlinks.

 

E-MAIL:  electronic mail

 

SPAM:  junk e-mail
