ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS:

 

Canvas – The work space within the image window. The size and color of the canvas can be changed by choosing Image > Resize > Canvas Size.

 

Layers – Layers are stacked, transparent sheets of glass on which you can paint images. You can see through the transparent areas of a layer to the layers below. You can work on each layer independently, experimenting to create the effect you want. Each layer remains independent until you combine, or merge, the layers.

 

Filters – Filters let you enhance or alter the look of original images.

 

 

MS POWERPOINT:

 

Slides – basic components upon which presentations are constructed

 

Slide Design – refers to the look and appeal of the presentation.   (i.e.  color or pattern of the background, and font selection)

Slide Layout - refers to the way things are arranged on a slide. A layout contains placeholders (placeholders: Boxes with dotted or hatch-marked borders that are part of most slide layouts. These boxes hold title and body text or objects such as charts, tables, and pictures.), which in turn hold text such as titles and bulleted lists and slide content such as tables, charts, pictures, shapes, and clip art (clip art: A single piece of ready-made art, often appearing as a bitmap or a combination of drawn shapes.).

Normal View – The main editing view used to write and design your presentation. The view has three working areas: on the left, tabs that alternate between an outline of your slide text (Outline tab) and your slides displayed as thumbnails (Slides tab); on the right, the slide pane, which displays a large view of the current slide; and on the bottom, the notes pane (notes pane: The pane in normal view in which you type notes that you want to accompany a slide. You print these notes as notes pages or have them display when you save a presentation as a Web page.).

Slide Sorter View – An exclusive view of the slides in thumbnail form making it easy to reorder, add, or delete slides and preview transitions and animation effects.

Animation Schemes – text, graphics, diagrams, charts, and other objects on the slides are animated so that focus is placed on important points, the flow of information is controlled, and interest is added to the presentation.  Animation schemes can be customized.

 

Slide Transitions – animated effects used to change from one slide to the next.

 

 

 

 

 

 

MS EXCEL:

 

Spreadsheet – a rectangular grid used to compile & organize data in rows and columns.

 

Workbook – a compilation of worksheets saved under one name.

 

Columns – vertical areas on the spreadsheet grid identified by capital letters.

 

Rows – horizontal areas on the spreadsheet grid identified by numbers.

 

Cells – the rectangular field where data is entered in the spreadsheet identified by the intersection of column and row.   (i.e.   B3)

 

Functions/Formulas – a set of symbols expressing a mathematical rule or calculation entered through the entry bar and always beginning with the equal sign.

 i.e.  =B1+B2+B3   or    =Sum(B1:B3)  

 

Common Functions:

          Sum  -  Adds all the numbers in a range of cells

                             =Sum(Data Range)  or  =cell name + cell name + cell name

 

          Subtraction – Find the difference btw 2 numbers

                             =cell name - cell name     i.e.    =A6-D2

 

          Product – Multiplies all the numbers given as arguments

                             =Product(Data Range)   or   =cell name*cell name

 

       Average – Returns the arithmetic mean of the data

                             = Average(Data Range)    i.e.  =AverageB2:B8
