Apparel and Accessories
Apparel and Accessories is the first course offered to
students pursuing a marketing and merchandising career major. Materials
and activities in this course will introduce the student to the
world of fashion merchandising and the various components of the
industry, provide a foundation for additional courses, and provide
entry level skills for the apparel and accessories industry.
One of the major objectives of this course is to get the
student interested in fashion merchandising and its various elements.
In order to accomplish this, students will prepare individual and
group projects consisting of short activities and reports on each
of the major topics covered: women’s wear, men’s wear,
infants and children’s wear, accessories, and fashion in the
global marketplace. These projects are designed to give students
a sense of the history of fashion, knowledge of current examples
of the particular fashion being discussed, and skills necessary
for making oral presentations.
